Melissa Young has taught at Balance Studios since 2011, and has been choreographing for the Balance Jr. Dance Company since 2012. She began dancing at age 5 after seeing a local performance of The Nutcracker. While in high school, Melissa studied under Billy Smith and Colleen Altaffer-Smith, touring the Western US with Desert Dance Theatre of Rock Springs, WY and working with choreographers from across the country. She also attended summer dance intensives through Dancer’s Workshop in Jackson, WY. Melissa received her BA in Dance Performance with a specialization in Choreography from the Richard Stockton College of NJ, under the direction of Nancy Lanier. While there, she performed and choreographed for the Stockton Dance Company, and worked with choreographers from Pilobolus, Momix, and Philadanco. Her senior work, Lit From Within, Viewed From Without, was selected to perform at The American College Dance Festival Association in SUNY Brockport. Melissa has taught dance/creative movement at various private schools, and is happy to be back in the studio here in Teton Valley!
