Whitney studied with the School of Grand Rapids ballet in Michigan for 8 years, 4 of which she spent as a company member. She was accepted into both the Ballet West and Charleston Ballet Theatre Summer intensives. She later attended Brigham Young University-Idaho where she studied modern dance and performed with the Contemporary Dance Theatre company. The company toured to Central America and much of the United States. She received her BS in Art Education with a minor in dance and health education. After graduating, Whitney worked as an adjunct faculty member for BYU-I where she taught jazz and tap as well as working as rehearsal director for the Dance Alliance company. She has danced with various Southeast Idaho groups such as the Upper Valley Civic Ballet, Rexburg’s Latin ballroom formation team, Aspire Contemporary Dance Company, the Esplin Dance Project, and The Dance Collaborative. Prior to teaching with Teton Valley Dance Academy she taught jazz, modern, ballet, and tap for Balance Studios. She has performed professionally as a dancer and backup singer in musical variety shows in Charleston, SC. She has attended the Dance Teacher Summit for 3 summers in Long Beach and San Diego, CA, and the Dance Teacher Web Conference in Las Vegas. She is recently certified in the Progressing Ballet Technique for junior, senior, and advanced levels, which she hopes to implement in her classes. She is excited to be teaching again after having her 5 children.
